However, when it comes to home decor ideas, homeowners have so many choices before them that it can be overwhelming. Considering the fact that each room is different, home decorators have to switch gears and thought patters as they go from room to room. Then again, there is the expense involved. When it comes to DIY home decor ideas, money is a huge factor that is often determines the type of home decor ideas certain homeowners will choose. However, homeowners do not have to spend a lot in order to come up with incredibly beautiful and highly effective home decor ideas. The bottom line is to settle on home decor ideas that are tasteful and befitting for each room and its purpose.

One of the biggest mistakes of amateur home decorators is their tendency to go overboard with home decor ideas. While it may be cute to have a couple of figurines on the corner end table, filling the entire surface with toy soldiers and cast iron horses is a bit overdoing it. Too much of something beautiful will lead to a cluttered look just as easily as a table covered with clothes pins. Therefore, covering every vacant surface with some sort of nick nack just for the sake of covering it with nick nacks is unnecessary. In fact, the effectiveness of home decor ideas has as much to do with space as it does with filling space. As such, home decorators must strike a balance by placing decorative items strategically, while allowing other areas to remain free of decor. This balance also has a lot to do with taste; and when it comes to home decor ideas, there is nothing more important than good taste.

While a velvet Elvis may look cool in the retro cheese game room, it certainly would not work well if hung above the living room mantle. If one were to do so, it would be an ideal example of poor taste. Of course, taste is relative, but it is safe to say that the average adult would agree that hanging a velvet Elvis over a fireplace is not exactly the best example of good taste. In fact, a jackalope head might be more tasteful than anything using a velvet Elvis.
