There’s a lot to keep track of during your home renovation. In order to pull it off, you need to keep track of your time, the cost, materials, and have a planned order to your work. Here are a few tips to help you map out your home renovation
Look Ahead
Look ahead to what you think you’ll need in the future. Will your family be growing? Do you anticipate getting pets? What will your daily life consist of? Obviously, it can be hard to predict, but it’s well worth it to avoid needing to re-do your renovation.
Make a Plan
Use a spreadsheet or a good old-fashioned pen and paper to plan out what your project tasks are, and what order they will go in. This will prevent you from adding base cabinets before flooring, for example, and needing to go over the same tasks more than once, which will cost you time and money.
Keep Track of Time
Estimate how long you think the project will take as you’re planning it out. Be honest with yourself and take into account your experience and the actual time available to you during a week. Give yourself a cushion so you don’t feel rushed.
Photograph the Process
Take photos before the renovation, while you’re renovating, and after. This will help you visualize your progress and motivate yourself. Additionally, photos will help you know where things were if you need to put them back.
